Sipora Gurung, Pride of Pokhara

Sipora Gurung was born as a youngest daughter to Mr. Moti lal Gurung and Mrs. Seti Ghising Gurung. She can also be called a little magician because at a tender age of 16, she has earned her name as a youngest best volleyball player of a Nepal. Sipora Gurung on action during Rastrapati Cup on 400m, she secured the first place. In 2063, when she was just 12 years of age, she became the youngest ever player at the 10th S.A.G held at Sri Lanka. Besides, Volleyball she also has keen interest in Athletics and she even has received a lot of medals in different programs. She is dedicated towards her game, country and wants to do something for her country. She feels proud to be a Nepalese citizen. She feels lucky enough that at this tender age, she got a chance to visit various places and gain a lot of experience. She says that she is able to reach such height as her school family; teachers and her parents encouraged as well as trusted her. Though she plays excellent in any position in volleyball court, she is basically a spiker. She is also a master piece in long jump and running. She stood first in long jump and 400 meters relay running in the regional selection tournament, but she could not take part in these events in the national games as she was selected for the volleyball team. Sipora Gurung with all her trophies. She is quite aware of the fact that it is quite difficult to earn one's living as a player in context of Nepal. She recalls her victory and the most memorable moment, when she was in Hetauda in the SAAF game; they had reached the finals and were competing against other senior. At that time, as the game was getting tougher, they had already lost their hope but they didn't give up. They had to play the match till Best of Five and finally they were able to captivate other's expectation and won the match. She says that she was never happy as she was at that time of victory. This 5'8" tall girl weighing 60 kg remains busy in training in morning and evening and study in the afternoon. Games have not affected her studies as she holds distinction marks in the final examinations. Encouragement from father and brothers and inspiration from senior players in the school had pushed her into volleyball. Now she aims to play in Asian games and become a professional player. Sipora Gurung was honored by Rastriya Bal Pratibha Puraskar. Sipora wins the best player's award in almost all matches she plays. She has also been awarded with National Child Talent Award that carries a purse of Rs 25,000. During her leisure's', she likes to explore different places. Her favorite politician is Prachanda as she finds him very dedicated and feels that he can do something for the upliftment of our country. Talking about life, she feels that it is full of struggles and one gets success only after struggle. She is a very enthusiastic girl and we wish her best for her coming future. "Nowadays, we don't participate Sipora in all games, rather we select her for only competitive matches," says Chinu Ranabhat, principal of Fistail Academy, which is providing free education, boarding and training to Sipora.
